Video Poker Games Explained - The Many Different Faces Of Video Poker Varients

Video poker games became popular in the 80's when computer chips could simulate a five card draw poker game. The design of a video poker machine is very similar to that of a slot machine but the game play is quite different. As is the case with other casino games, video poker has also transitioned from a popular land based casino game to a popular online casino game. There are numerous variations of Video Poker each offering different payouts on the paytables. The most common varients of the game include Jacks or Better and Deuces wild, but there are many others offering much larger payouts for different winning combinations. Just remember to adjust your strategy accordingly depending on what variation of the game your playing.

Jacks or Better

Jacks or better is one of the most popular video poker games in the world, whether it be online or offline. One of the reasons for its popularity is the fact that it is one of the simplest video poker games out there. To play, all you have to do is insert money or coins in the machine and then decide the number of credits you wish to bet per hand. After that you click on the deal button. You are then dealt with the cards and you get to choose which ones you want to keep. After that you click on draw and your discarded cards are replaced. If your final hand is a pair of jacks or better, then you receive a payout.

Deuces Wild

This is another popular form of video poker and is based upon the concept of a wild card. All the 2 cards or deuces as they are called sometimes, can be used as wild cards, that is, they can be used as any card in the deck. This helps a lot in making really good hands. However, because it is easier to make such good hands, the pay table for this game is not as lucrative as that for jacks or better.

The gameplay is pretty much the same as it is for Jacks or better. You insert the coins, select the cards you want to keep, and then click draw. You get the payout depending upon the hand you have. You need to have a minimum of three of a kind to get a payout. When playing at a casino that offers a full pay table, deuces wild can be a good game to go for. There aern't as many big payouts, but it seems to pay back often since 3 or 4 of a kind is common.

Double Double Bonus Poker

This is a variation of Jacks Or Better that is very common due to the fact that it has higher paytables than the others. All 4 of a kind hands pay anywhere from 400 credits up to 2000 credits compared to Jacks or Better which only pays 125 credits for quads. The big payouts on double double bonus poker are getting 4 aces with a 2-5 as the kicker. That can pay 2000 credits, or just 4 aces with a kicker higher than 5 pays 800 credits. So it's easy to understand why this game appeals to so many players due to the higher payouts.

Doubling Down

If the final hand that you have is a pair of jacks or better then you will get a payout. However, this is where the game becomes more interesting. After the initial payout you have a chance of doubling the money that you received.  If you decide to double up, then you will be presented with 5 cards on screen, with only one card face-up. You have to pick one card from the other 4 and if it is a higher ranked than the face up card, then you double your payout. While it's not recommended to do this more than 2-3 times on a single win, I've personally doubled down 7 times in a row making a 20 credit win for a straight worth over 2500 credits. I will admit I was a little drunk, but the point is you always have a shot at getting a big score by doubling down if you have the courage to do it making the double down a very interesting feature of video poker.
